Mississippi Power brings STEM lab to Kroc Center

You may not be familiar with Louie the Lightning Bug, but local kids at the Kroc Center in Biloxi are thanks to a contribution from Mississippi Power.

Mississippi Power partnered with the Kroc Center to welcome kids to the Louie’s STEM Lab at the center.

The lab consists of six computer stations and tons of building toys designed to get students using their imagination to advance in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Spokesperson Kaila Moran Griffith of Mississippi Power says it’s important and beneficial to introduce kids to STEM activities early.

“You know, it’s so important for us to get students interested in engineering and math and science and technology because we hope that one day when they grow up, they’re going to want to come and work for Mississippi Power and they can make a big difference in their community,” Griffith said. “You know, we’ve got a lot of sharp minds here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and so to be able to grow that and cultivate that is such a rewarding thing and we’re very excited to be able to help a little bit in that process.”

Mississippi Power now has three STEM labs on the coast committed to educating kids for the future.
